WANA (Nov 23) – Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson and deputy for international affairs at Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, responded to Western actions at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, stating that such pressures are ineffective and will only lead to an increase in Iran’s enrichment capacity. He remarked, “Every time a resolution is issued, fewer countries support it, while more nations oppose it. These policies only strengthen Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”

Kamalvandi elaborated on Rafael Grossi’s recent visit, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), explaining: “The visit was at Iran’s invitation to foster interaction. Grossi toured the Shahid Alimohammadi and Shahid Ahmadi Roshan complexes and observed Iran’s advanced capabilities firsthand. This visit was an opportunity for him to witness that, in case of continued pressure, Iran is ready to utilize these capacities.”

Expansion of Enrichment and Infrastructure Development

He emphasized: “Following the issuance of the resolution, Iran immediately began actions, including the installation of thousands of new centrifuges, significantly increasing enrichment capacity. These centrifuges were already prepared and can remain inactive in a cooperative atmosphere but will be operational if a confrontational approach persists. Additionally, Iran is actively advancing its research and development in industrial enrichment and upgrading its related infrastructure.”

Clarifying Misconceptions

Kamalvandi dismissed rumors about halting 60% enrichment, stating: “Iran has never stopped 60% enrichment. The initial agreement only involved maintaining the current capacity for a limited and conditional period, which was voided due to the other party’s non-compliance. Now, enrichment not only continues but orders have been issued to increase its speed gradually.”

Addressing claims of contamination at certain locations, Kamalvandi clarified: “These locations are not nuclear sites, and any potential contamination is not indicative of diversion. These are straightforward issues that can easily be resolved, provided the political climate allows and there is no misuse of the situation.”

Kamalvandi’s remarks reflect Iran’s determination to counter external pressure while advancing its nuclear program, whether through cooperation or confrontation.
